All the international interns in China can have a 3days off soon because of the Dragon Boat Festival, also named the Duanwu Festival. It falls on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar. But how much do you know about it?
What Dragon Boat Festival is all about?
As one of the most important traditional festival in China, it has a history of over 2,500 years. It was originally held to commemorate a patriot poet and loyal minister of the State of Chu during the Warring States Period who drowned himself when his country was occupied by the State of Qin.
How do Chinese Celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival?
The most popular activity for Duanwu Festival is dragon-boat races, especially in the southern provinces where there are many rivers and lakes.
The dragon-boat races symbolize the many attempts to rescue Qu’s body. A typical dragon boat ranges from 50-100 feet in length, with a beam of about 5.5 feet, accommodating two paddlers seated side by side.
In addition, you cannot miss the festival traditional food “zongzi” during your internship in China!

When Dragon Boat Festival is coming, children would wear colorful sachets containing aromatic herbs because there is an old saying that colorful sachets can drive away diseases and evil spirits.

In China, people used to drink some realgar wine torepel the snake and drive away evil spirits.
