Our Chinese Friend Program is a unique program specially designed in response to our interns needs. When coming to China for an internship, you should aim to best take advantage of your limited time. You will be working in an interesting company and can also choose to study Chinese during your stay. However, language and cultural barriers may still make the adjustment difficult. That’s why having a local to help you acclimate is a truly invaluable resource. In our Chinese Friend Program, we match every intern with a Chinese student as a friend and mentor. The student that volunteered to act as your first Chinese friend in the city will introduce you to Chinese hospitality. They will assist you with logistical matters, especially during your first days in Chengdu, teach you Chinese, and simply be a friend to show you around the city, go out at night, or have a cup of tea in the park.

By establishing connections with locals so early on, you will be able to experience China in a way that most people that come here for a relatively short time find it difficult to do. You will gain deeper insight into Chinese culture, and make some of your most lasting memories with your Chinese friend.

Who are the Chinese students that take part in the program?

All of our Chinese volunteers are university students majoring in teaching Chinese as a second language. As a result, they all speak fluent English and are also available to teach you Chinese.

What’s included in the program?
In addition to the basic internship package, the Chinese Friend program also includes:
-Chinese language course – two times of Chinese language private lessons every week, two academic hours per time – taught by your Chinese friend in your home.
-Chinese study materials
-Administrative assistance throughout your internship- your Chinese friend will help find an apartment, negotiate prices, handle the local service providers, show you where to buy essentials, etc. They will be available to assist you throughout your entire stay in China.
-Cultural immersion – discover interesting places in the city, experience the rich nightlife of Chengdu, and grow to love Sichuanese cuisine. Your Chinese friend will share with you insights about Chinese culture, and if you really hit it off, they will probably even invite you to join a family dinner in their homes!
-A life-long friend
